A study by the Lien Foundation in 2016 shows 64% of the subjects agreed that Singaporeans are reluctant to come in contact with children with special needs despite being unbothered by their presence.

A local news that sparks attention among Singaporeans was the news
on a viral video of a man with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) masturbating on the MRT train.
This video was uploaded and later removed due to the massive discussion online. Followed by a Facebook post from the family member, urging the public to have a greater understanding of the community with special disabilities. This incident further prove that Singapore society’s acceptance level of special needs is low.
